Do you still remember me?

Last time I wrote was almost two years ago. I remember having coming through a series of deaths in my family. Guess what? There’s life after death. Yep, now I’m a future soccer mom/already a ballet mom of two. My little girl now has a little brother.

Vintage Mother’s Day IllustrationI was thrilled when I realized all those stomach problems weren’t caused by food poisoning. Hubby was so surprised because we weren’t expecting it. Aimee’s pregnancy wasn’t an easy business. Who knew, baby Richie’s would be a breeze.

Now we’re a happy family and I’m pretty much ready to go back writing. Let’s see how it goes.

Soup and more soup

I didn’t expect this, I mean, getting the flu during autumn, that’s a winter thing, right?

It is not in my house, where everybody got sick. But it was the weirdest illness of all. We all got the symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, and weakness), but there was not internal symptom according to our doctor. No fever, clear throat, no virus. It seems to be a new kind of flu.

The only thing everybody wanted to eat was soup. Luckily, I could rely on Pinterest to get the right recipe.

The first soup was a traditional caldo de pollo. It reminded me of home back in the day.

A pumpkin soup was in order. We lost some weight so I cooked a creamy version.

Finally I made a non-meat potato and leek soup.

I hope we don’t get sick during winter. I’m not so sure I’ll cook that many soups then.

Happy Father’s Day!

Black and white vintage picture of seated a father with his two kids, a boy a and a girl.

Today my father called and said he was getting sick without so he’s moving in too. The first thing that struck my mind was that I was supposed to be the one calling him. Then I realized that he’s very attached to my mom and he wouldn’t wait for me to call. He’s been calling every single day since my mother arrived.

My dad is the kind of man who married his high school sweetheart and still is in love with her. He raised his kids in a very unconventional way but still made us realized how important family is. And he’s very lovable. He’s been gently chastising me for giving away too much personal information lately. That’s the kind of guy he is. Family is a sacred private circle for him.

I know my experience is not everybody else’s but I wanted to share how lucky I am to be my dad’s daughter. To him, to my husband and to all fathers out there: Happy Father’s Day!
