I felt like reading Homer’s Iliad. After all 19th and early 20th century novels I’ve read, I thought I deserved some Classics. How wrong was I?
Honestly, I had to start all over again three times. That’s a record for me. Granted, last year’s last months were hectic. But then again, this is supposed to be the foundation of Occidental literature. I should be able to read it with no sweat.
When I finally finished it, I watched Troy again. I kind of needed the frivolity of it all. Lets face it, The Iliad is extremely bloody, far more violent than some video-games. Brad Pitt‘s rendition of a heterosexual Achilles made me reconsider my not liking the original epic poem, but not enough to actually like it. Now I’m reading something more to my liking. I really deserve that.
